8/16/2012 1 Comment P in AtlantaWhen Aunt Lisa heard that P was going to spend 2 weeks in Atlanta with Grandma Maria and the Stroes...she made sure P traveled in style: I held back major tears...such a huge improvement than when Melissa came out to visit me when I was working in Atlanta (1994). I think Mel was 9 or 10, so the same age as P flying by herself for the first time. This girl has no fear. I'm so glad that she has this independent spirit. I couldn't help but think about her heading to college one day....oh the thought makes me so sad. It was a hectic work day for me so I didn't have time to take her to lunch at the weird spaceship restaurant, but we have a date there when I pick her up in 2 weeks. Paula - if you see this....we miss you...have fun with your little cousin Simone! 8/7/2012 0 Comments my childhood friendJudy was in San Diego this week with her brother Dat's family. We were friends since 6th grade. Look at her now..she has no tummy..I am actually sucking in my tummy in this picture and I still look twice as large...being in your 40's suck! Judy's kids: Khayla, Kiley, Kollin (my Godson!) Dat's kids: Natalie, Nicholas...and the youngest is not in the picture [left to right] Khayla, Paula, Kiley, Natalie, Nicholas, Niculai, Kollin
8/5/2012 1 Comment The MariscalsWe knew these kids when they were 10 -12 years old...last weekend they came over for dinner... Marco is a graduate from Dartmouth, moving to New York City next month. Alex is a sophomore at Virginia Tech and has a lovely girlfriend (Anna) who reminded me so much of Anne from Texas. These boys were raised well...have such good manners and chose to hang out with us old people on a Saturday night. They gave us some good advice on raising Paula and Nic, especially during the teenage years. Adrian with proud Papa Ricky
8/5/2012 2 Comments 15K vs. $300We've had plumbing issues on and off for several years. When we were in Romania, our renters called to complain about the plumbing. Told us they got a quote for $15,000. How would you like that news overseas? Adrian decided to fly back to San Diego to fix the plumbing himself. He extended the pipes and flew back to Romania. It was a quick and cheap fix. This weekend Adrian decided to bite the bullet and replaced the old metal pipes that were there since 1943. It took him 2 days and $300 (day laborer + materials) to fix it correctly. Homeboy deserves a vacation!!! Child labor cuts costs found several green June bugs Cheers to good plumbing!
8/5/2012 1 Comment postagram from ItalySO COOL! I still love receiving mail the old fashioned way...look what the mailman dropped off this week! We received a postcard from the Sassos vacationing in Lampedusa - largest island of the Italian Pelagie Islands in the Mediterranean Sea (got that tidbit straight from Wikipedia). Nic had sent Elia a pirate ship kite as a summer gift..... LOVE IT!!!!!!!
8/5/2012 0 Comments Project guest bathroomAdrian finally finished the guest bathroom. I'm not crazy about the white shelf/cabinet thingy I have in there at the moment..it'll have to do until something interesting comes along. It was a lot of work to expand the shower, but it's definitely worth it.
Go to this old house > project guest bathroom to see Adrian's work. |
