4/25/2016 1 Comment No More BracesBraces came off on 4/22/16. Still have to wear retainers almost around the clock since his mouth is young and there are still baby teeth that will fall out. He is one happy kid to be rid of braces!
4/24/2016 0 Comments Epic Comeback!Team Venom was trailing 0-4....in the last 15 minutes, the team rallied to come back and win the game: 5-4!!! Nic scored one and assisted 2 of the goals.
After the battle: 4/24/2016 1 Comment Save Our Chargers!Chargers Team held a rally downtown in the proposed location to gather 60,000 signatures from fans....this is just to get on a ballot in November so that San Diegans can vote on whether they can build a new stadium in downtown or not. So complicated to keep football in town. I can't imagine living in a city without football. This is a BIG DEAL for us. Proposed site - next to baseball stadium. Seemed so wasteful to have 2 stadiums side by side! The complaint from fans with the downtown location is that there is no parking lot for tail-gating...screw that....whatever it takes to keep a team in town. In preparation for the possibility of football leaving town, I started watching basketball again after a break of 20 years. After the back-to-back Rockets championship, I just stopped watching basketball when Horry left Houston....maybe the major obsession with Robert Horry was too much for me!! I caught the tail end of last year's playoffs and jumped on the Steph Curry band wagon and now watching basketball again! I love the Curry-Thompson duo!!!
4/24/2016 0 Comments Switzer Canyon CleanupPaula is required to put in at least 10 hours of community service during her 6th grade year. This weekend, she logged in 3 hours to clean up the canyon behind our house as part of the "I Love a Clean San Diego - Creek to Bay Clean-Up".
4/20/2016 0 Comments Forever connectedMiles and Zoe belong to the wonderful people who bought our house down the street in 2007. We had to sell the house to them in order to have funds to comfortably take the plunge to move to Romania....our quest to find Paula and Nic! That couple and their kids will always hold a special place in my heart.....they have since remodeled the house and made it their own. Miles (3), Zoe (7), Paula (12), Nic (10)
4/9/2016 1 Comment Broody HenIt happened to Charlotte. We came home from Big Sur to find her sitting on 17 eggs.
Here is an explanation taken from the web: A hen that is committed to hatching chicks is known as a broody. The state of being broody is controlled by instinct, hormones and lighting conditions. Left to her own devices, a broody will lay a clutch of eggs, then stop egg-laying and sit on them for 21 days (more or less) until they hatch. Poor girl. I would remove her from the nesting box, then she would just plop on the ground. Then when I am not looking, she finds her way back to the nesting box cause she thinks she has to sit on the eggs to incubate them. Because we don't have a rooster to fertilize these eggs, the eggs will never hatch....but she doesn't know so made it her mission to protect the eggs. I read a couple of blogs to find suggestions on how to break her from this "spell". After the 4th day's attempt, it worked! She is back to being normal again...but tonight I found Maleficent sitting in the nesting box and not moving......another broody hen! 4/9/2016 1 Comment random updates Although Nic started with a new soccer club (Barcelona), he still wanted to play with his old coach and team (the Venoms). We scrimmage with the old team whenever possible. Venom season ended so coach came up with new team name "Fuego" and uniform. Nic pretty much lives soccer 6 days a week between the 2 teams' schedules. All 6 graders at Paula's school went to camp for a week. A week without any technology (no cell phones).....learning about team building, leadership skills, science and nature appreciation. They are filming a TV pilot called "Pitch" in our little hood. The kids and I got nosy and drove through the lot full of trailers. They were filming at night. We didn't see much. Here is some info I found: Fox has ordered “Pitch” to pilot, Variety has learned. The baseball drama hails from Dan Fogelman and Rick Singer. Kylie Bunbury will topline the potential series, which follows a young female pitcher who defies the odds when she becomes the first woman to play in the major leagues. 4/3/2016 2 Comments the killers - 10 years laterMy love for the killers has lasted 10 years. Saw them last night at Harrah's Resort (a Casino in North San Diego). No nonsense concert, just light effects (no video backdrops or fireworks)....Brandon just sang the hits...so perfectly. First half, he was in a suit, second half, in all black. I don't have any good close up pictures. I sat in the back with all of the older fans... Check out this compilation youtube video someone put together - love it! |
