Things not to say at the Thanksgiving dinner table:
Paula = "You're not my real Mom, you're my adoptive Mom".
I can't even remember the context of the conversation cause it threw me for a loop. Yes, she's being factual, but it HURT! I was surprised with my reaction to it....a huge blow to the heart.
When I took Paula and Nic with me to return some movies....I brought to Paula's attention that I was hurt by her comment. I don't think I was supposed to do that being the wiser parent and all, but I wanted to talk about it with them....explaining to them that I prefer they refer to their "real" Mom as the "Birth Mom".
Nic = "Mom, don't worry about it. You are the only Mom that I know and love more than any toy in the world. I mean....I don't even remember the lady who digested me."
Nic = "I know that she had to give us up because she didn't have enough materials to take care of us.....were we homeless?"
I don't think I will be as strong as I thought when they get older and want to find their REAL parents.
Everything is so clear after a good rain.
Check out a new song from the killers' greatest hits CD (thank you cousin Cathy!) I love this song, doubt you'll ever hear it on the radio:
This week I was in survivor mode...you see, both cooks in the house (Adrian and Lisa) were sick, so I had to step up and cook for the crew one night......Anh Vinny's beef stir fry recipe to the rescue. I was in Houston last weekend for Uncle Hung's funeral....Anh Vinny decided to cook at Mom's house and made some stir fry that was so damn good. Followed his recipe as best as I could, but it was definitely not as good as his. I bought the meat already sliced but it was still too thick.
Mike said it was OK and the kids were fine with it. Adrian and Lisa were too sick to eat it. I'll keep trying until I get this dish right.
After Uncle Hung's funeral, all of the relatives sat around and watched old videos...with all of us cousins when we were little (I was about 10 ??). It was a riot - I loved those memories of playing with each other.
Which reminded me to take more videos of these 3 as they spend time together..they will thank me when they are in their 40's.
