Paula's first love letter

Picture

Paula came home with a red rose, said that her teacher gave it to her.  Later this evening while I was away :(   a brave boy named "Jules" stopped by our house to give Paula the letter above.  Adrian said he chatted with the boy's dad who invited us over to their house for a visit.  This sounds like modern day arranged marriage!

My thoughts after reading this letter:

1) Why do some kids think Paula is weird?  I asked P how she felt reading that.....she said that she liked being "weird".

2)  If we ignore this kid and his parent's invitation - will this devastate the boy?  You know, unrequited love?

3)  If we do come over and become friends - is this sending the wrong message?  I don't want to encourage "love" at this very young age.

4)  It's cute that the parents helped their son.   I would be the kind of Mom to help Nic when he likes a girl...totally!

I am going to call the parents tomorrow...
I agree with Jimmy's comments so reached out to his parents.  Thanks so much for your comments - I really appreciate hearing from a guy's perspective.

I also did some sleuthing (talked to other Moms)  and found out that Jules is French.  His family lived in SD, then moved to Bali for a few years, came back to SD, then moving again....this time to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  A well traveled young man....see his Mother's response - he sounds adorable!!  Paula feels awkward and does not want a play date, but we are going to stop by to give him a little good-bye gift....so I can check this boy out!!  Stay tuned.....

I met Jules.  Nice kid.  He disguised his shyness around Paula by being silly.  I think stopping by and saying "good-bye" properly was the right thing to do.  Paula made him a friendship bracelet :)  His parents are super cool!  I really wished I had met them much sooner, they seemed like very interesting people.  They're going to open a Thai restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  He'll be going to a school with a British-curriculum plus 50% Spanish immersion.  So many interesting people to meet, so little time.

If it hasn't happened already, you should definitely meet the boy. You're gonna devastate him. Besides, he's leaving soon anyway so what more can really happen? It won't hurt is all I'm saying.

BUT if Paula has zero interest, even as a friend, then don't do it.

I am so happy that both you and his mom are open minded and cool
