Flipping Out

I bought a gymnastics party for Paula and her friends at the school's silent auction last May....so it was time to cash in before it expired at the end of the year.

I had originally scheduled the party on a Sunday, but the place messed up with the scheduling and had to move our party to a Saturday...for the inconvenience, they let me bring extra kids for free.

So, Paula's party got changed into a "Holiday Party" for her and Nic's friends!

What is a "school's silent auction"? Trying to modernise the Italian schools so any new idea is highly appreciated :))

Hi Sanda!

As a fundraiser for the school, volunteers go to local businesses to ask them to donate something to the school. Donations could be gift items, a service, etc.

Then at a school function, they place all these items on a table. Each item has a starting bid. Then parents write their name under the items they want to buy and the amount they are willing to pay for it. I think true "silent" auctions you don't get to see the current bids, but at my school you can see what the highest bid is so you can bid again to ensure you get to buy the item when the time runs out.

Example:
Gymnastics party for 10 kids (retail proce = $200)
Starting bid = $25
Bidding ends at = 8 pm

Bidding List:
Sanda $30 (you bid $30 at 6pm)
Me $50 (I bid $50 at 6:30 pm)
Sanda $75 (you bid at 7:59 pm and lock me in the bathroom)

You "won" the Gymnastics Party for $75. The $75 goes to the school; your kids get a party with their friends; Business gets a tax write-off for donating to schools :)

So awesome that you are involved in the kids school. Now that I know you are involved, I'll make sure to send you ideas!

Thanks for the tip (on how to win the bid, I mean :)))).
We have kind of a similar system for fundraising the school projects, but no as bids (old Europe continent not wanting to modernise!!!). Ours is very simillar to lotery: you pay a fixed price and then you win/not the prizes.
2/3 times a year we organise a "market" where we sell donated old books, flowers in pots (especially for Mother's Day).
But here schools are mostly financed by the State and little money is obtained through donations/fundraising. So it is kind of a dog that bites his own tail.
